Our team is seeking a Traffic Signal Operations Engineer who will help make getting around town easier for people who live, work, and play in Issaquah. This position is responsible for the engineering operation of the Citys 53 traffic signals and implementing the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Plan. The ITS Plan aims to improve safety, health, security, and movement of goods, people, and services by using advanced technologies, establishing agency coordination, maximizing existing system capacity, and providing real-time traveler information.

Our traffic signal operations engineer provides advanced professional engineering services and is responsible for planning, design, enhancement, installation, and operation of the Citys traffic signals, signal timing plans, ITS, and street lighting systems. The role includes reviewing and approving private developers plans and supervising related public works projects. The position ensures compliance with regulations and standards, and requires effective independent work, collaboration, and communication skills.

• Oversees implementation of the ITS Plan.
• Develops, reviews, and implements signal timing plans and improvements.
• Coordinates with WSDOT and other jurisdictions.

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
• At least five years of civil engineering experience, including project management.
• Professional Engineer license required; ability to obtain Washington PE license within 6 months if licensed elsewhere.
• Valid WA drivers license and a suitable driving record.
• Equivalent training and experience may be considered.

• Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, especially traffic signal operations.
• Knowledge of engineering design, transportation planning, traffic engineering, and relevant computer applications.
• Familiarity with traffic signal controllers, MUTCD, and construction standards.
• Ability to lead projects, communicate effectively, and prepare technical documentation.
• Ability to maintain records, perform computations, and establish effective relationships.
