Position: Seasonal Recreation Aide (Holiday Season / Summer)

Reports to: Parks & Recreation Manager

Emergency Classification: Essential

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: 101

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Parks & Recreation Department is seeking an energetic, customer-focused Seasonal Recreation Aide to support our programs and events during the holiday season and/or summer months. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with the community, engaging with participants of all ages, and assisting with fun recreational activities in a lively, team-oriented environment.

Position Summary

Seasonal Recreation Aides assist with the planning, setup, and facilitation of recreational programs, special events, camps, fitness activities, and general community programming. This role helps ensure our facilities, equipment, and events run smoothly and safely, while providing excellent service to residents and visitors.

Seasonal positions may include daytime. Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts depending on program and event needs.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation: If assigned, employees in this

classification will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an

emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the

clock for several days on short notice.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists in the planning, development, and execution of recreational programs, events, and activities, such as sports, leagues, programs, fitness classes, arts and crafts, and special events.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, providing information, and assist with program registrations.
  • Set up and maintain recreational facilities, equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for participants.
  • Supervise and monitor program participants to ensure their safety and compliance with department policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting recreational events through marketing materials, social media, and community outreach.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with administrative tasks, such as attendance tracking and program evaluations.
  • Collaborate with other department staff and volunteers to coordinate and support various activities.
  • Handle emergency situations and administer basic first aid as needed, following department protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized program area and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Attend training and staff meetings to stay updated on department policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Prepares activities for before and after school care or day camp.
  • Assists with creating promotional flyers as assigned.
  • Ensures needed supplies are stocked for scheduled activities.
  • Assists with facility cleanliness and informs Manager of any facility maintenance issues.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with the general public, coworkers, and the program participants.
  • Attends all assigned meetings and events
  • Performs emergency response tasks and assignments as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Certification, and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Previous experience in recreational activities, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment).
  • Lifeguard certification preferred.

***Relevant work experience may substitute on a year for year basis for education requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of recreational activities and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of and interest in recreation and related activities and community events.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Skills in communication; both oral and written.
  • Skillful self-starter, self-motivated.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork and work with various office equipment and software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all program participants, coworkers, and the general public.
  • A passion for promoting community well-being and a commitment to the mission of the Parks & Recreation Department.

Physical Requirements:

  • Tasks involve some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Tasks involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard, with extended periods of visual concentration.
  • Physical ability to set up equipment, stand for extended periods, and lift moderate

weights.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and potentially dangerous environments.

Sensory Requirements:

  • Task requires sound perception and discrimination.
  • Task requires visual perception and discrimination.
  • Task requires oral communications ability.
