PURPOSE

Responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of plastic food-packaging products through regular auditing, testing, and data analysis. This position helps maintain compliance with food safety standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned as directed by the Quality Supervisor or upper management:

1. Conduct routine audits of operations across all departments to verify product quality, with a specific focus on plastic food packaging standards and food safety guidelines.
2. Coordinate with on-shift coworkers to cover key production lines, prioritize critical audits, and ensure continuous quality oversight.
3. Enter data into relevant databases or systems accurately, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) software.
4. Conduct or assist in laboratory testing and measurement studies as assigned by the Quality Supervisor
5. Perform sanitation tasks and audits to ensure compliance with food safety requirements and maintain accurate documentation.
6. Help guide new auditors on quality auditing procedures, standards, and best practices.
7. Conduct assigned warehouse or RMA audits, ensuring the proper handling and documentation of returned products.
8. Analyze critical data and communicate findings promptly to operations staff, facilitating timely corrective actions for any quality issues.
9. Complete other tasks as assigned by the Quality Supervisor or upper management to support the continuous improvement of production quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Familiarity with Common Defects: Possesses working knowledge of typical plastic packaging defects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a laboratory or auditor environment is preferred. SPC trained or quality experience a plus.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

• Reading and Comprehension: Capable of reading and understanding instructions, memos, and short correspondence.
• Writing Proficiency: Able to draft routine reports and correspondence.
• Document Interpretation: Reads and interprets safety rules, operating instructions, and work instructions effectively.

MATH ABILITY

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

COMPUTER SKILLS

• Email: Comfortable sending and receiving electronic correspondence.
• Data Entry: Proficient in entering audit data into SPC software and other relevant systems.
• Microsoft Office Suite: Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Access.

1. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
2. Extreme heat (non-weather).
3. Exposure to high heat index during the summer months while in the production area. The laboratory is climate-controlled.
4. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is usually loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment). The noise level in the laboratory is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
