PLC Programmer (Ford FAST 3.7 / TIA Portal / S7 Classic)

We are seeking 3 experienced PLC Programmers for a dynamic opportunity based in Fenton , with commissioning work at the Ford Livonia Transmission Plant . This role involves programming and debugging software for a combination of retool kits on existing stations and new machine builds based on pre-established templates. There is a strong potential for the assignment to extend beyond the initial 3-month period .

Key Responsibilities:

• PLC programming , start-up , and debug of advanced automation equipment at both in-house and customer sites.

• Develop and troubleshoot ladder logic using Ford FAST 3.7 , within both TIA Portal and S7 Classic (v5.6) environments.

• Interpret mechanical sequencing , controls drawings , and translate specifications into functional PLC code .

• Verify machine build accuracy according to engineering drawings and ensure all peripheral equipment is installed, functional, and safe to operate .

• Collaborate with electricians , pipe fitters , robot programmers , and machine builders to verify and commission hardware and controls.

• Confirm correct machine power-up and ensure all safety systems and interlocks are operational.

• Validate proper wiring and communication between PLC and peripheral devices , including establishing robust PLC-Robot interfaces .

• Load and configure PLC hardware , debug manual and automatic sequences , and adjust for optimized cycle time performance .

• Support project management , controls teams , and customer representatives to meet and exceed performance expectations.

• Conduct and pass a successful 20-hour run-off and customer buyoff .

• Provide accurate, updated electrical drawings , PLC programs , and relevant documentation to appropriate departments.

• Implement and test any required system changes or software updates .

• Comply with safety and environmental regulations , actively identifying potential safety hazards or compliance issues .

• Participate in ongoing quality system initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

• Maintain regular, dependable attendance and complete timesheets accurately and on time .

Requirements:

• Proven experience programming in Ford FAST 3.7 using both TIA Portal and S7 Classic (v5.6) .

• Strong understanding of ladder logic , logic control systems , and mechanical sequencing .

• Deep knowledge of electrical , pneumatic , and hydraulic systems .

• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics , wiring diagrams , and mechanical drawings .

• Experience with robot integration , including configuring PLC-Robot communication .

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams on-site.

• Understanding of safety protocols and environmental compliance in an industrial setting.

• Previous exposure to machine commissioning , debugging , and run-off procedures preferred.
