CDAC is seeking Trauma Informed Care Counselors provides crisis assessment and support for students facing imminent risk; to provide support and training to staff of Santa Rosa County School District (SRCSD) to address trauma, crisis, and school/individual safety concerns. Reports to the Coordinator of Trauma-Informed Care Counselors.

This is a permanent full-time position with a 10-month schedule, which follows the school calendar. School holidays and breaks are observed, including summer break.

Essential functions

Works to provide crisis assessment and support to students and staff in a school-based setting to meet the standards and objectives set forth by the SRCSD. Serves on the county's Threat Assessment Team.

Work environment

Work is conducted primarily in a climate-controlled school setting. Employee must be able to communicate well with school administrators and staff and integrate well into the school while maintaining professional boundaries. Employee will be expected to provide his/her own transportation to and from school/work daily and to the main CDAC office a minimum of two times per month. Employee must be able to follow the school schedule for teacher start and end times for the assigned school(s). Travel required

  • 10-30% local travel between school sites

Required education and experience

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
  • Licensed in Social Work or Mental Health
  • Certification as a Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer within 6 months of hire
  • Experience with facilitation of trainings with adults
  • Must have a valid state issued drivers license

Preferred education and experience

  • Non-profit and/or social services industry experience
  • Experience in a school setting
  • Experience in providing individual/group counseling with youth and communicating with families

Other duties

  • Serve on the county's Threat Assessment Team; provide guidance if a risk or threat is identified at a school within the district, collaborating with SRO, MRT, and administration
  • Ability to apply comprehensive understanding of job requirements to carry out instructions, utilizing training materials and problem-solving skills
  • Coordinate, schedule, and participate in crisis intervention, trainings, and CSTAG and Threat Assessment Team meetings, prioritizing needs and maintaining flexibility with schedule changes
  • Educate school staff on program components and guidelines through awareness building efforts
  • Conduct presentations on resiliency, trauma, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and other related trainings for district staff
  • Complete assessment forms abiding by state and district guidelines; provide documentation to the Coordinator of Mental Health for SRCSD
  • Advocate on behalf of clients as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality in regard to client rights and HIPAA regulations by handling client and agency data in accordance with the confidentiality policies
  • Provide information dissemination and education and referral services to community resources as needed
  • Provides limited support to Tier III students as needed
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with team members, attend team meetings, and communicate regularly with supervisors on program needs and issues
  • Ensure positive rapport between the CDAC agency, school administrators, school staff, and the community
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with all regulating entities are supported through timely and accurate documentation and reporting (CDAC and SRCSD)
  • Complete administrative duties, including but not limited to email and telephone correspondence, telephone and web conferences, and complete required documentation, and time sheets accurately and on time
  • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures, including safety, ethics, and confidentiality guidelines
  • Attend all required agency and district trainings and meetings
  • Continue professional development to meet licensure requirements, as well as trauma, crisis, resiliency, mental health, and adolescent and child development and complete required documentation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and participate in the agency Performance and Quality Improvement Plan
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of this agency

Position requires a Level II Background and valid driver's license.
