Job Description

Legal Investigator

The Legal Investigator will assist in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role will primarily involve conducting investigations into complaints of sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and bias incidents, as well as assisting with providing training and support to the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, relationship violence, stalking, retaliation, and bias incident complaints. This will include, but not be limited to: gathering evidence, interviewing parties, preparing detailed reports, and maintaining thorough, accurate, and comprehensive investigative records.
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals involved in the investigation process, including other investigators, complainants, respondents, and witnesses.
  • Stay updated on changes to federal regulations, Kentucky state law, and best practices in investigation and resolution processes.
  • Support the University's efforts in prevention, training, and education initiatives related to civil rights compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree/Juris Doctorate.
  • Experience in higher education working with faculty, staff, and student populations.
  • Professional experience working with topics related to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, bias incidents and/or sexual misconduct.
  • Experience with case management and/or case management databases, including Maxient.
  • Four years of direct investigative experience in higher education, compliance, or a related investigative field.
  • Proven experience in leading investigations, including knowledge of best practices for interviewing and evidence gathering.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, planning, and organizational skills and the ability to understand and explain complex policies and regulation.
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.

Target Compensation Maximum: $70,623.00

Target Compensation Minimum: $47,048.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
