Position Summary This full-time, exempt role will partner with firm leadership to oversee all aspects of IT for the law firm and serve as a partner in shaping the future or how we deliver technology to the business. The IT Director will play a strategic and hands-on leadership role overseeing all aspects of IT operations, infrastructure, security, strategy, and innovation, including leveraging emerging technologies to support attorney productivity and client service. The IT Director will report to the Managing Partner and collaborate closely with law firm leadership to ensure the effective implementation of IT programs, policies, and initiatives for the firm. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, currently composed of two direct reports. Shape and scale the IT department in alignment with the firm’s strategic goals and growth. Collaborate with the Managing Partner and firm leadership on long-term IT strategy and innovation. Translate firm-wide goals into actionable IT plans and measurable outcomes. Skilled at navigating change and adjusting plans as needed to ensure program success in dynamic environments. Technology & Infrastructure Oversee IT infrastructure including servers, cloud services, mobile devices, printers, copiers, and other equipment. Guide the firm’s migration toward a cloud-first environment with modernized, scalable solutions. Ensure IT systems support seamless collaboration across offices and for remote staff. Stay up to date with the latest trends and developments and implement best practices within the organization. Security & Compliance Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure security, confidentiality, and compliance. Monitor adherence to IT policies and implement appropriate training and audit measures. Stay abreast of evolving cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies specific to legal services. IT Operations & Support Manage day-to-day IT operations, ensuring prompt and effective support for employees and attorneys. Promote IT literacy across the firm through training and resources on tools like Outlook, Teams, and document management systems. Improve attorney efficiency and reduce administrative burdens through workflow optimization and technology enablement. Manage system implementations, technology platform migrations, complex application development programs and cross-functional workflow modernization projects. Systems & Software Evaluate and optimize legal technology tools including NetDocs, TABS, AR Tracker, and other systems used for billing, document management, and case administration. Identify and implement new applications and automation opportunities to streamline internal processes. Provide oversight for app development, integration, and vendor management. Budgeting & Vendor Management Create and manage the IT budget, including hardware/software procurement, vendor contracts, and licensing. Evaluate, negotiate, and manage contracts with IT vendors, consultants, and service providers. Data & Knowledge Management Oversee data integrity, backup systems, and disaster recovery planning. Lead initiatives to improve data governance and legal knowledge management. Support the firm's compliance with client data and confidentiality requirements. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with HR, Finance, and other firm departments to align technology solutions with operational needs. Provide clear, proactive communication and education to firm leadership and staff regarding IT initiatives and impacts. Preferred Qualifications Education and Work Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred). 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a leadership, or director level role. Prior experience in a law firm or other professional services environment. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, IT policy development, and compliance in a regulated setting. Proven ability to lead and manage teams, with a strong people first leadership style. Demonstrated ability to align technology strategy with organizational goals. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Additional Qualifications Experience with document management and document management software, specifically NetDocs. Familiarity with Microsoft, Dell, CrowdStrike, Windstream, CDW, TABS, or similar platforms. Legal, Healthcare, or Professional Services experience a plus. Working knowledge of IT budgeting, contract negotiation, and vendor management. Ability to translate complex technical topics for non-technical audiences. Solid understanding of networking and computer hardware. Strong interest in privacy and cyber security. Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Must be able to sit for most of the time with some periods of standing. Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone. Sufficient visual acuity to read and comprehend hand-written and printed documents. Must be able to lift 10 pounds without assistance.
