Hydrogeologist Associate State of Arizona

Work under the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) to safeguard the public's health, safety, and economic welfare through groundwater modeling and hydrologic analysis.

Base Pay Range

$70,000.00/yr $90,000.00/yr

Location

Hybrid: remote
1110 W. Washington St., Suite #310 Phoenix, AZ 85007 (minimum two days on?site per week)

Job Summary

Under the overall supervision of the Section Manager, the Hydrogeologist Associate serves as a project lead for developing and reporting regional groundwater flow models and guides internal and external users on modeling expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop new regional?scale groundwater flow models.
• Generate model reports and presentations for technical and non?technical audiences.
• Provide modeling expertise to ADWR staff and outside clients.
• Critically review modeling reports and hydrological studies.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret geologic and hydrological data.
• Prepare and maintain modeling project work plans and schedules.
• Direct hydrologists and manage modeling projects conducted by outside contractors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Extensive knowledge of groundwater flow modeling techniques (MODFLOW), inverse modeling, and model calibration. Proven ability to apply statistical results, use databases, spreadsheets, and GIS, and communicate findings to diverse audiences.

Preferred Experience

• Lead team(s) in groundwater model development or calibration.
• Technical management of complex hydrogeological projects.
• Proficiency with MODFLOW GUI environments (Groundwater Vistas, GMS).
• Programming skills (Python, SQL, Visual Basic or similar).
• GIS expertise (ArcGIS or QGIS).

Pre-Employment Requirements

Advanced degree in hydrology, geology, hydrogeology, or related field. Exceptional B.S./B.S.E. candidates may also be considered. Minimum eight years' experience in numerical groundwater modeling or advanced data analysis.
