Job Summary:
The Forensic Scientist I supports the Employer Solutions division in the Forensic Toxicology Laboratory by performing all aspects of confirmation testing on donor specimens. Responsibilities include specimen preparation, extraction, and operating analytical instruments while maintaining chain of custody and documentation. This role works under the direction of a Department Supervisor and requires accuracy, consistency, and adherence to strict quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Follow sample handling and chain of custody procedures for forensic specimens.
Perform sample preparation, extraction, and instrument operation per SOP guidelines.
Maintain accurate, legible records and complete required documentation.
Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Perform and document temperature checks on equipment.
Participate in method and instrument validation studies.
Validate new calibrators, controls, and procedures.
Maintain acceptable productivity and report issues to supervisor.
Complete continuing education and competency verification.
Follow all company and department policies.
Support quality control and assurance requirements.
Maintain professionalism and adhere to assigned work schedules.
Perform other related duties as directed by Supervisor.

Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or Medical Technology.
Alternative degrees accepted if science coursework meets NYS requirements.
Minimum 1 year laboratory experience preferred.
Familiarity with lab procedures and forensic toxicology methods.
Ability to perform routine, repetitive motions and stand or sit for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Strong data analysis and general systems knowledge.

Nice-to-Have Experience:
Prior experience in forensic or toxicology lab settings.
Exposure to regulatory requirements in clinical or forensic labs.
