TITLE: Athletic Trainer
QUALIFICATIONS: Must obtain a master’s degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Must hold and maintain current license from the Georgia Board of Athletic Training.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month contract
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of the board policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
REQUIRED SKILL SET:
Detailed oriented and comfortable with making quick decisions related to medical situations;
Able to apply knowledge and best practices regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines;
Maintain thorough and detailed records with documentation;
Able to simultaneously manage multiple complex tasks;
Strong organizational skills; and
Strong communication skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Athletic Training Responsibilities
Support the established athletic training program for high school athletics;
Provide First Aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning;
Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season;
Attend summer practices as needed;
Coordinate the annual required athletic physical and help oversee the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons;
Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs and methods;
Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room;
Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student-athlete;
File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents;
Maintain a daily treatment log;
Assist with maintaining supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory; and
Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
Professional Learning
Remain current regarding developments in the field of physical therapy;
Obtain and maintain certifications and continuing education training associated with the needs of the athletes, including CPR/First Aid;
Share information with others and apply what is learned to athletic training practice;
Participate in professional organizations; and
Accept new challenges in a professional manner.
General Responsibilities;
Maintain a pattern of prompt and regular attendance;
Complete reports, documentation, duties, and other assignments in a prompt and professional manner;
Exhibit time on task and a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard-working attitude and style;
Exhibit initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job description;
Comply with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Code of Ethics for Educators and Thomas County Schools Employee Code of Conduct;
Maintain good relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents;
Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and other athletic trainers;
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and material;
Adhere to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, and punctuality;
Complies with established lines of authority; and
Performs other tasks as assigned by the athletic director and superintendent.
